Crane operators

Air Portal lets you make applications to participating aerodromes to operate a crane near an airport.

You must apply for permission to work if a crane is to be used within 6km of an aerodrome and its height exceeds 10 metres above ground level or the level of surrounding structures or trees.

Piling rigs and other similar tall devices come under this heading and process.

You also need to inform the CAA if the crane is above 100m above ground level CAA website.
